This book tells the human and artistic story of Vittore Crivelli, the younger brother of the great master Carlo Crivelli.
A family of Venetian painters, the Crivellis founded the most important artistic workshop of the 15th-century Adriatic. From his apprenticeship in Padua with Francesco Squarcione, to his stay in Dalmatia, and finally his arrival in the Marche, Vittore left his mark on small villages, treasure troves. Indeed, today his works can be seen in the Municipal Art Galleries of Sarnano, Monte San Martino, Massa Fermana, and Sant'Elpidio a Mare, and in the churches where he worked on commission from religious orders.
Contrary to what many critics claim, Vittore is not merely a copycat of his brother, but a lively experimenter and skilled craftsman, capable of creating an innovative and original figurative language. This book aims to demonstrate this, guiding the reader through a fascinating historical-artistic journey to discover the villages of the Lower Marche and the works of an artist capable of providing exceptional surprises.
